Bedtime Yoga - Stretches, Games, Cookies And Milk

“Gentle poses, games and calming breathing techniques all add up to relaxed and limber little bodies and lots of fun for 6-12 year-olds at the Andrea Powers Wellness Studio at Bald Eagle Square in West Milford. The children are invited to come wearing their pajamas, the perfect outfit for yoga poses, and toting a favorite stuffed animal, if they choose. The classes were developed so that children can come together to learn fitness in an enjoyable setting, under the guidance of yoga instructor Sara Van Goor. ‘Kids are natural yogis,’ said studio owner, Andrea Powers. The aim is to introduce yoga in a safe atmosphere where the youngsters can strengthen and improve their flexibility, coordination, and posture. Breathing techniques relax and open the mind and body, she added. One of the games involves asking the child to pose as their favorite animal. The emphasis is not on perfection, but on how the pose should feel. At the end of the evening the children sit in a sharing circle and enjoy cookies and milk. Then - it’s off to bed.”
