Workout For Energy

“Running on treadmill in one Oregon gym does more than work up a sweat. The exercisers are also generating electricity. The exercise machines at the Green Microgym in Portland are connected to generators. Working out helps to power the lights, TVs or the stereo system in the health club. Owner Adam Boesel tells a local paper (Columbian) that people like the idea they're doing something for themselves and the planet. They can also earn while they burn. Club members get $10 vouchers for neighborhood businesses for every 10 hours spent generating juice.”
