“Treatment has changed significantly over the past decade. From the onset, it is aimed at achieving disease remission and preventing destruction of the joints. People with RA should be fully educated about the disease and the available treatments. A rheumatologist is usually involved in the care from the very early stages. In addition to medications, treatment includes exercise therapy to increase range of motion and strength, and to help prevent deformities.”
