“Idaho took on 13 states in a big fitness competition... and won! It took home the top prize of $55,000 to fight childhood obesity. Virgin HealthMiles put on the national competition. It counted the steps taken by teams from January 1 through 14. Idaho’s team of 40 took more than 9 million steps. Idaho managed to beat a team of 90 from Alaska that came in second. Dave Tuthill, the director of the Idaho Department of Water Resources walked more than 15 miles each day and was one of the top performers. ‘I live about five miles from work. I would walk to work in the morning. And then walk at lunch time. Then walk home. And if necessary I would walk at night. I continue to use my pedometer and continue to participate in Virgin HealthMiles. I think it's a good cause,’ said Tuthill. The money will be used to put on a competition between middle schools and to help jump start fitness programs in schools. Other states participating in the competition included Alabama, California, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, North Dakota, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin.”
