“Monday is World Day for Physical Activity. Organizations around the globe will encourage people to start exercising with more on the activities going on right here in Indianapolis. The National Institute for Fitness and Sport, located at 250 University Blvd., is offering a free membership to the health club all day long. NIFS will also be doing free health screenings. Experts say regular physical activity is needed because it can help treat and prevent cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, type II diabetes and even certain types of cancer. ‘The American College of Sports Medicine says you should try to get 30 minutes of exercise on most days of the week so we're really trying reach out to the community and tell them that fitness is fun,’ Kristen Davis with NIFS said. Experts say an exercise program can include activities as simple as taking a walk after dinner or before work. This is one of 6,000 events taking place around the world Monday.”
