Charities Benefit From Joint Giumarra-Bally’s Promotion

“Feeding America, Chicago, formerly America’s Second Harvest, and San Joaquin Valley food banks were the ultimate winners as the lobby of a Fresno, Calif. Bally’s Total Fitness club was transformed into a peach tasting room. The Reedley division of Giumarra Bros. Fruit Co. Inc., Los Angeles, provided the fruit for the late August event and paid Bally’s $10 for each club member who participated in the sampling, according to a news release. In turn, Bally’s donated $1,000 to the charities. ‘Giumarra, under our Nature’s Partner brand, is always focused on providing the consumer with the best-tasting piece of fruit we can offer,’ Hillary Brick, the company’s senior vice president for marketing, said in the release. ‘Bally’s was kind enough to allow us to sample at their facility, a great venue where the clientele is so health conscious.’ The donation was timely as the California drought and court-ordered irrigation water pumping reductions have eliminated the jobs of thousands of farmworkers. The unemployment rate in several valley communities is at or above 40%. ‘The venue for testing peaches could not have been better,’ Pattie Moon, research facilitator, said in the release. The Bally’s club members who participated in the peach sampling ranged in age from 18 years to 65 years, she said, with the majority 18-34 years old. The results of the sampling provided data for Giumarra about several different varieties and growing methods, Brick said. Giumarra is a fundraising partner with Feeding America, the release said.”
