Don't ask Sacramento, Calif., Mayor Kevin Johnson to dunk, because he won't, and can't. He was about six years removed from the National Basketball Association, where he had starred as a point guard for the Phoenix Suns, and his slam over Hakeem Olajuwon in the 1994 playoffs still has a life of its own. That play still makes sports fans' lists of most memorable dunks. So he tried again to defy gravity - and age. ‘I couldn't,’ he said. Fitness, though, remains part of Johnson's lifestyle. As a former professional athlete, he knows the importance of staying in shape and the perils of inactivity. So, no more basketball - but how does the mayor keep fit? Here's how: About three times a week he hits the gym. He usually works out at 5:30 a.m., but sometimes he'll go at 11 p.m. Getting up that early is no problem.
