“A health club in Luton is helping smokers take the first step to kicking the habit. Bannatyne's Health Club in Regent Street is marking No Smoking Day on March 11 by giving smokers a health check that will assess individuals' physical capabilities and helping focus them on the kind of activities they can do to begin leading a healthier lifestyle. Professional fitness advisors will be on hand to carry out the health check which will comprise taking height, weight, blood pressure, lung capacity, sit and reach, body fat and BMI tests. The 'first steps' health check will be available from Monday, March 9, until Wednesday and the health club are scrapping the joining fee for any new members who join on No Smoking Day 2009. Nina Hadley, general manager of the Luton club, said: "We'll be offering our support to smokers in Luton because committing to quit is the first steps to living a new healthy lifestyle. ‘After giving up they will soon realise that physical activity will become easier be it running for the bus or playing with their children in the park. Our first steps health check will help them evaluate the gradual build up of exercise they can take on and help them set their long-term lifestyle and well-being goals.’”
