Baby Boomers Put More Boogey In Their Step, Beware ‘Boomeritis’

“Boomers are hardly slowing down; most are fighting the sands of time to remain fit and, as Rod Stewart sings, stay ‘forever young.’ Maureen Hamilton — who is 61-years-old and a Welsh native who relocated to San Diego 13 years ago — saw it coming. It kept creeping up on her year after year, and eventually she knew she had to put an end to it. For Hamilton, her boomer years brought weight gain as a result of inactivity that she knew she had to nip in the bud sooner rather than later. ‘You get to this age and people around you are getting sick with heart problems and other serious illnesses,’ Hamilton said. ‘I figured the best way to combat it was to lose some weight and get moving to feel more energetic. I know my joints won’t last much longer with extra weight on them.’ With the skyrocketing costs of health care, baby boomers are not only turning to a healthier diet, but looking to exercise as a way to stay fit and battle the debilitating – even deadly – illnesses that come with age.
