“Several Clevelanders recently took time out of their schedules to give back to the leaders of tomorrow. CCCKC’s recently formed Public Health Club joined forces with the Kansas Public Health Association (KPHA) and the Kansas State Library (KSL) in support of ‘Kansas Reads to Preschoolers.’ Program participants visit daycare centers and preschools to read to the children about the benefits of good health. CCCKC students visited the Special Beginnings daycare facility, located in the Student LifeCenter on campus. While there, they read a book to the children titled ‘Bear Feels Sick,’ in which a bear feeling ill gets better with the help of his friends. The book was selected by the KSL and KPHA, but the positive message worked well with the Public Health Club’s commitment to community health education. ‘We discovered the reading opportunity through our club sponsor, Dr. Will Evans,’ Richard King, the club’s president, said. ‘It fits into the purpose of our club, which is to focus on health promotion and education in our school and in the public as well.’ The Public Health Club is in its first trimester of existence and has nearly 40 members. King said the organization is committed to continuing its participation in this program and similar ones in the future.”
