Health Clubs Popular Every January

“New Year's resolutions and lousy weather have combined to pump up memberships at some South Hills fitness centers, following a national trend. The International Health Racquet & Sportsclub Association, based in Boston, said that, historically, 12 percent of all health club memberships are added in January, the most of any month. We talked to some gym owners, managers, trainers and members about their expectations for the new year. The association found the consensus among club operators suggests the first few months of membership are crucial to developing relationships with new members, establishing patterns and ultimately retaining a member, At Amerifit Fitness Club, a 900-member health club in Green Tree, manager Jeannine Richardson said there is definitely more traffic this month. For those thinking about shaping up in the new year, the club offers short-term memberships. ‘Sometimes that helps people stay true to their goals,’ Ms. Richardson said.”
