Good Health: Fitness Club Thrives

“Helen Naples, the owner of Women's Wellness & Fitness, said that people are constantly asking if her business has been struggling in this economy. She said they tell her, ‘When times are tight people are afraid of losing their jobs and when budgets get squeezed surely people think of fitness as a luxury.’ Naples is happy to respond that her health club, which is for women only, has actually experienced growth. ‘Some people look at their health and well being as an investment," she said. ‘It actually is a financial decision for them to invest in their health and well being because, frankly, they can't afford to be sick.’ She said that Women's Wellness & Fitness had a record first quarter, partly benefiting from the closing of some gyms and health clubs in Winston-Salem in the past year.
